Course details:
In this 1.5 days training you will get insight into how to minimise the risk of spending time beyond your contract duration (or scholarship duration). We start off with an introduction round in which participants introduce themselves to the peer coaching group (4-6 participants per group) that they will be in during the course. Then we discuss what it means to obtain a PhD degree and what needs to be done to obtain it, after which the reasons for delay are discussed and listed. This is done by allowing all participants to evaluate individually what their main reason(s) or risk factor(s) for delay are. This is presented in the peer group to reflect and to help make the challenge as specific as possible. Accordingly peer groups present the main challenges they discussed in a plenary session.
After having made the reasons for delay clear and specific, solutions on how to tackle the delay will be presented and discussed. Here again participants discuss in their peer group which tools can be used to tackle their personal challenges for delay. We end the day with formulating an individual SMART plan of action on how to tackle the delay challenges. This too is presented and discussed in the peer groups. The day ends
with a general synthesis.
Between day 1 and 2 of the course the peer groups each plan a date on which they get together to discuss the progress of the SMART plan of action and what can be improved. In addition, all participants are asked to provide a planning for the remaining time of their
PhD and to send it to the graduate school coordinator.
DAY 2: 28 October 09:00 - 13:00
Day 2 is half a day in which the progress of tackling the delay challenges is discussed. First the peer groups discuss amongst themselves how things are going after which they give a plenary report (what went well, what could go better, how to take things forward). Main points of attention are discussed plenarily after which a final synthesis is given by the course leaders.
