The new Brain Museum at the Latin School in Nijmegen officially opened its doors on Friday, 29 November 2024. The festive occasion was marked by a ceremony visited by Mayor Hubert Bruls and Radboud University Executive Board Chair Daniel Wigboldus.
The Brain Museum is a unique initiative of the Donders Citylab and welcomes visitors into the world of the brain and science. Located in the historic Latin School, the museum provides an engaging space for people of all ages to explore the wonders of neuroscience through interactive exhibits, brain games, and participatory experiments.
On Saturday, 30 November, the museum opened to the public for the first time and received an enthusiastic response. Visitors were able to test their memory, explore optical illusions, and even learn about animal brains in a fun and educational setting. Children enjoyed hands-on activities such as neuron puzzles and sound experiences that mimic the auditory world of a fetus.
Workshops like Close Encounters with Inner Aliens, blending meditation, AI, and cognitive neuroscience, were fully booked, underscoring the public’s excitement about the museum’s innovative approach to science communication. The museum also allows visitors to contribute to ongoing scientific research, reinforcing its mission to connect the public with cutting-edge developments in brain and behavior studies.
Free entrance
The Brain Museum is free to visit and continues to operate as a centerpiece of the Donders Citylab, alongside its other venues at the Public Library (Mariënburg) and the muZIEum. For more information, visit the Brain Museum website.
