Donders Institute celebrates 750th PhD Thesis

Today, Donders Graduate School marked a significant milestone: Marina Hommersom successfully defended her doctoral thesis, making her thesis the 750th entry in the Donders Thesis Series since the first in 2007.

Since its founding, the Donders Graduate School has become a vibrant, interdisciplinary community of PhD candidates engaged in research across fields studying the brain, cognition, and behaviour. The Donders Thesis Series captures the full breadth and depth of research carried out by our PhD candidates.

Reflecting on this achievement, Annemiek Barsingerhorn, Graduate School Coordinator at the Donders Institute, states:

“It is amazing to see that there are so many theses within the Donders Thesis Series. As an institute we should be very proud of all these PhD graduates, it is a major achievement to obtain a PhD. For me it was a trip down memory lane, including the first defense that I attended, my own thesis, all the theses of friends and former colleagues, to PhD candidates I welcomed as graduate school coordinator when they started.”

To mark this milestone, Annemiek Barsingerhorn took on the challenge to gather all thesis covers from the series and created a beautifully curated mosaic showcasing the creativity of the Donders PhD community. This unique artwork was presented to Marina today, symbolising both her place within the long-standing tradition of Donders research and the collective achievements of all who came before her. It is also noteworthy that thesis number 781 in the series has already been assigned.
