Focus groups

To stimulate and facilitate interactions between researchers around topics of shared interest, the Donders Institute (DI) will provide funding for Focus groups – bottom-up initiatives for regular meetings in which researchers of different centres come together around a topic or method.

To apply for funding, please fill out the application form. Shortly after the deadline, the director, in consultation with the Research Platform, will make an initial selection based on the degree to which the proposal meets the requirements and aligns with the objectives of the call (e.g., broad interest, clear motivation for the budget). Subsequently, the short-listed proposals will enter a lottery where each proposal has an equal chance of winning. Proposals that are short-listed but are not selected for funding can be resubmitted in the next round. Funded focus groups are not automatically renewed but can be (re)submitted annually.

Requirements

  • The team consists of four or more members of two or more DI centres (DCC, DCCN, DCN, DCMN, MPI, CLS).
  • All applicants need to be (a)PI at one of the DI centers. Diversity (e.g., gender) should be considered.
  • The budget can range from 100 to ~5.000 euro, to be spent before December 1, 2024.
  • The budget can include various items, such as money for lunch, venues, advertisement, small material, etc. The salary of the applicants cannot be included in the budget.
  • A guideline is for a focus group to organize at least five meetings per year (e.g., bimonthly); exceptions to this can be justified in the application form.
  • Focus group meetings will be listed on the DI webpage and should be open for all Donderians.
