What:
In this experiment, participants high and low social anxiety symptoms will play a non-verbal communication game with other people.
Why:
We investigate the role of social anxiety in everyday interactions. More specifically, we aim to understand the neural mechanisms underlying communication and how it may differ in people with social anxiety.
How:
Participants play a non-verbal communication game with other people. The experimental session consists of a series of surveys, followed by the communication game, where they will try to communicate with each other without talking. We will also perform a short MRI structural scan. The total time investment will be three hours, and participants will get 45 Euros and can receive their 3D brain scan,
In- and exclusion criteria
- High or low social anxiety symptoms, to be assessed with a short online survey
- Aged between 18-40
- Have normal or corrected-to-normal vision
- No neurological or psychiatric diagnosis
- No metal in their upper body (tooth fillings and crowns are allowed)
- No use of antidepressants or antipsychotic medications
