Study programme American Studies year 1
The first year of the program will introduce you to the main aspects of the academic study of the English language and American Studies (literature, history, culture, politics and linguistics) and provide you with American-English language proficiency training. In addition, you will learn to critically read American literary texts, be familiarized with the methodologies needed to analyze literary texts in an academic context and critically approach the history of the United States.
About this study curriculum
By the end of your first Bachelor year, you will have familiarized yourself with the main aspects of the academic discipline of American Studies, acquired a high level of English language proficiency and mastered the basic analytical skills required to proceed with the linguistic, literary, cultural, historical and political elements of the degree program. This includes, for example, the ability to critically read American literary texts, basic skills in analyzing the phonetics and syntax of standard English, a basic understanding of the history of American culture, society and politics, and a basic understanding of and experience with the interdisciplinary working method of American Studies.
