Study programme American Studies year 2
In the second year of American Studies, the topics and approaches to studying North American society expand to include media, popular culture, art history and foreign policy. At the same time, you move into more in-depth analysis of key themes through thematic seminars on topics such as American identity and diversity, social movements, and contemporary engagements with the 19th century. Throughout the programme, sustained attention is given to linguistics and spoken and written English fluency.
About this study curriculum
In addition to your compulsory courses, the second year also includes 30 ECTS of minor space, giving you the opportunity to tailor your studies to your own interests. You can choose to specialize in specific areas of English or American Studies. Alternatively, you may opt for an interdisciplinary minor focused on a particular theme or a language and culture package offered outside of your own programme.

Minor space
In the minor space, you decide for yourself how you want to fill part of your programme. You fill the minor space with the Faculty of Arts minors of 15 EC each; one in semester 1 and one in semester 2. We offer three types of minors:
- Language and Culture minors
- Interdisciplinary minors
- Additional minors from your own study programme

Additional minors
You can choose to take one or two additional minors from your own programme in your minor space. Within a minor, you will take three courses for a total of 15 EC. Your programme offers the following additional minors and associated courses.
