Legal tuition fee
Institutional tuition fee EER
Institutional tuition fee non-EER

If you are going to study at a university, you have to pay tuition fees. The legal tuition, set by the Dutch government, is applicable to EU/EEA*, Swiss or Surinamese students who have not yet obtained a Bachelor’s degree in the Netherlands. There are some exceptions to these conditions. If you do not meet the above conditions and are from an EEA country, you qualify for the EEA institutional tuition fee. If you are from a non-EEA country (excl. Switzerland and Suriname), you qualify for the non-EEA institutional tuition fee.

Please note, as a non-EU/EEA student you are eligible for the legal fee if you:

  • Receive a UAF grant (for refugee students in the Netherlands);
  • or if you meet the nationality requirement for a government study grant from DUO

*EU/EEA countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands (including the Dutch Caribbean), Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or Sweden.
