The first year of the bachelor programme will introduce you to the main aspects of the academic study of English language and culture (including literature, history, politics and theory,) and provide you with English language proficiency and linguistics training. In addition, you will learn to critically read British literary texts, be familiarised with the methodologies needed to analyse literary texts in an academic context and critically approach the history of Great Brittain. 

About this study curriculum

By the end of your first bachelor year, you will have familiarised yourself with the main aspects of the academic study of English language and culture, acquired thorough language proficiency and mastered the basic analytical skills required to proceed with the linguistic, literary, cultural and historical elements of the degree programme. This includes, for example, the ability to critically read British literary texts, basic skills in analysing the phonetics and syntax of standard English, a basic understanding of the history of English language and culture and a basic understanding of and experience with the interdisciplinary working method of English Studies.
