Study programme of Bachelor's in Mathematics

Mathematics is a 3-year Bachelor's programme (in Dutch) at the Faculty of Science at Radboud University. It forms the foundation for abstract and logical thinking. The programme offers ample opportunity to specialise in self-chosen mathematical topics. You can arrange the elective space yourself to ensure the programme aligns perfectly with your career aspirations.

Curriculum

  • Curriculum year 1

    In the first year of the programme, you will be introduced to the fundamental principles of mathematics. During lectures, you will learn about differentiation, integration, differential equations, systems of equations and matrices. Geometry, probability theory, algebra, programming and mathematical structures are also covered. Additionally, you can choose your own modules within or outside mathematics to complement your studies.

  • Curriculum year 2

    In the second year, you will delve deeper into mathematics. You will take several mandatory courses and choose a learning trajectory (Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Probability and Statistics) that aligns with your interests. You can complement your learning trajectory with elective courses. This way, you can tailor your study programme to match your future career aspirations.

  • Curriculum year 3

    In the third year, you will take mandatory courses supplemented with elective courses from the learning trajectories and free elective space. You can take a minor or spend a semester abroad. You will also work on a team project focusing on questions from the business sector or medical field. You complete your Bachelor's programme with a thesis and presentation on a mathematical topic of your choice.

  • Double Bachelor's

    A unique challenge at Radboud University is pursuing a double Bachelor's degree. Study Mathematics & Computing Science or Mathematics & Physics and Astronomy in a combined programme. A double Bachelor's is designed as a challenge for motivated students who can complete the programme in 3 years without significant study delays. By making an extra effort of 25%, you can earn two Bachelor's degrees.

Minimum ECTS
39
This study programme consists of 60 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) per year. At the end of the first year you will need to have accumulated a minimum of 39 ECTS in order to receive a positive BSA to continue your studies in the second year. Failing to meet this minimum requirement and receiving a negative BSA means that you are no longer allowed to continue with your studies. Of course, we will consider outstanding circumstances such as sickness or other personal factors. Your study advisor or mentor will regularly discuss your study results with you so that you are not faced with any surprises.

Study abroad

During your Bachelor's programme, you will have the opportunity to go abroad for your studies, internship and/or thesis. You will learn to look at things from the perspective of a different culture and you will meet new people; it is an experience that will enrich your life.
