Study programme Bachelor's Molecular Life Sciences year 2 and 3

From the second year on, the emphasis shifts towards biomedical research. Knowledge of all fields of chemistry is extended and the relevant physical and mathematical background is deepened. In the second semester of the second year, you start your specialisation phase and compose your own programme. You can choose to specialise in medical biology or move in a biochemical direction.

  • Electives (57 EC), consisting of:
         - Core Electives (18 EC)
         - (Optional) Minor programme (15-30 EC)
         - Natural Science electives (9-24 EC)
  • Free electives (6 EC)

After the first two periods of the second year, you enter the Specialisation phase, in which you are free to compose your own combination of courses to prepare you for your desired Master's specialisation. This part consists of Core Electives, an optional Minor programme, supplemented by Natural Science electives. Two specialisation trajectories (30 EC) have been designed to prepare you for either a chemical or biological Master's specialisation. These recommended trajectories can be found at the bottom of this page.

Core Electives (18 EC)
You must choose at least 18 EC from a list of relevant electives. Or have a look at the recommended trajectories at the bottom of this page.

(Optional) Minor programme (15-30 EC)
The first semester of the third year is designated as a minor and exchange semester. You can, for instance, follow the Education minor or the minor in computing science during that semester. You may also put together a series of related courses (e.g. on economy, or on nano science, or on mathematics). Doing a minor programme reduces the number of elective courses you will have to take.

Natural Science electives (9-24 EC)
The remaining EC space needs to be filled up by choosing Bachelor's courses from any programme at the Faculty of Science.

You round off your Bachelor’s with a research internship, in which you take part in ongoing research at Radboud University. Perhaps you will even discover something new during your internship! During your Bachelor’s you look ahead to the Master’s and to what you would like to do with your Molecular Life Sciences degree in the future. Do you want to become a researcher or a lecturer? Or are you more interested in a job as an advisor or a manager in industry?
