Curriculum Bachelor's in Science Year 2 and 3
After your first year, you'll begin to truly understand the connections between disciplines and start specialising in your chosen direction. In the second and third years, you'll choose one of these combinations: Biological-Chemical, Biological-Physical or Physical-Chemical. This prepares you for either the job market or further education. You can also obtain a teaching qualification through an educational minor. You'll complete the Bachelor's programme with an internship.
About this study curriculum
The second and third years of the Bachelor's in Science consist of four components:
- Common compulsory courses (24 ECTS)
- Specialisation courses (78 ECTS)
- Free electives (6 ECTS)
- Bachelor's internship (12 ECTS)

In addition to the compulsory courses and your chosen specialisation courses, you have 6 ECTS of free elective space. You can take advanced courses in your field, or choose courses from other scientific disciplines like mathematics or computing science. You might also consider courses outside the faculty, such as economics, psychology or literature studies.
You can also use your free elective space to take an education minor (30 ECTS) in physics or chemistry. The programmes for these minors can be found at the bottom of this page. Combined with your Bachelor's degree, this gives you a limited qualification to teach at secondary school level. It's also excellent preparation if you're planning to take the education Master's programme; the education minor exempts you from the first half of this Master's.

An internship offers you the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience, expand your professional network and gain a clearer insight into your own skills and interests. It bridges the gap between studying and working and serves as an excellent springboard to your future career.

Specialisations
In the Biological-Chemical specialisation, you'll delve into biochemical processes and learn to work with molecular biological data. The courses are selected to help you work on both sides of the interface and discover connections. The biochemical specialisation consists of 36-39 ECTS of compulsory courses, with the remainder filled by science electives and/or a minor.

In the Physical-Chemical specialisation, you'll explore quantum mechanics and nanoscience with physics students, and study solid-state materials and DNA techniques with chemistry students. The courses are selected to help you work on both sides of the interface and discover connections.

In the Biological-Physical specialisation, you'll explore biophysics, mechanics and learn to work with molecular biological data. The specialisation consists of several compulsory courses which you'll supplement with science electives and/or a minor.
