Systematic introductions

Philosophy consists of various sub-disciplines. In six introductory courses, you will be introduced to Political Philosophy, Ethics, Metaphysics, Philosophical Anthropology, Philosophy of Science and Social- & Cultural Philosophy. Each discipline addresses a subset of our reality and offers a unique take on the pressing problems you will analyse in the second and third years of your studies.

History of philosophy

To understand today's most important societal issues, you have to understand the centuries of thought that have forged our world and our perspectives on these issues. You will learn that many of the concepts that are central to contemporary debates originate in the theories of thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Spinoza, Kant, Marx, Nietzsche, Arendt, and many others. Three historical courses will equip you to discern the theoretical concepts and models that are at work in the most important debates of our time.

Methods and skills

As a philosopher, you need far more than knowledge of the texts, theories, and concepts that structure our world. You also need to master an arsenal of methods and skills that will allow you to carefully read and analyse theories; formulate logically consistent arguments; and write academically sound papers
