Course Content
We offer this course at the levels B2 (advanced), C1 (highly advanced) and C2 (native speaker level). The course helps teachers to develop their English language skills to the target CEFR level and to prepare for the Cambridge exam at that level.
All skills and exam components are addressed: reading and listening skills, speaking and writing skills, grammar and vocabulary.
Only English is spoken during the classes, so English speaking skills are practised as much as possible. You will complete exercises to prepare for the classes, which you will then put to use in them. You will also work on practice assignments, tips and mock exams to prepare for the Cambridge exam, as well as receiving personal feedback from your tutor at several points throughout the course.
Structure
The standard course format is 15 two-hour meetings. The maximum number of participants in a single group is 16.
Certification
By the end of the course, you will be ready to take the official Cambridge exams, which the British council administers several times a year.
You will receive a certificate of participation from Radboud in’to Languages, provided you attend at least 80% of the sessions.
Location
We can provide the course on-site at the school, at Radboud in’to Languages or online. You can also choose a mix of online and on-site classes.
Course materials
Every course uses a textbook. The school should purchase these for all participating teachers before the course starts. The course material is not included in the price. We work with the following books depending on the level:
- B2: Open World First Student’s Book with Answers with Online Practice, Cambridge University Press (ISBN: 9781108759052).
- C1: Open World Advanced Student’s Book with Answers, Cambridge University Press (ISBN: 9781108891455).
- C2: Cambridge English Proficiency Masterclass Student’s Book, Oxford University Press (ISBN: 9780194705240).
As well as the textbook, course participants also receive access to the course in Brightspace: Radboud University’s digital learning environment. In Brightspace, you will find all of the necessary extra material, assignments, practice material and online links for self-study.
Determining level with placement test
We ask teachers to take an Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) first so we can match the course to the level of the participants. We can determine their level based on this.
Which course matches which score?
- English for advanced students (B2): OOPT score of 60-80 or a Cambridge Preliminary certificate (score C or above)
- English for very advanced students (C1): OOPT score of 80 or above or a Cambridge certificate B2 First (score C or above)
- English: native level (C2): OOPT score of 100 or above or a Cambridge certificate C1 Advanced (score C or above).
