Introduction to Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Analysis (RSS00.01)

In this four week online Summer School course you will become acquainted with different techniques to describe and predict pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and learn how to apply these techniques in research and clinical practice.

    General

Pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) studies are imperative to the development of new medicines and essential in ensuring early access to medications for special populations, such as pregnant women and children. These studies allow for preliminary safety assessments, finding the appropriate dose, and evaluation of drug-drug interactions.

The role of clinical pharmacology has been well-established in research as well as clinical practice. Its main function in drug development is to establish a dose that is both safe and effective. In this course you will become acquainted with different techniques to describe and predict pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and learn how to apply these techniques in research and clinical practice.

The course exists of four online training modules. You will gain a better understanding of how to design a pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic study, how to analyse pharmacology data, and how to interpret the data.

The course is organised by the Radboudumc Pharmacy Department and supported by the Radboudumc division of Pharmacology and Toxicology.

During a period of four weeks (work load: about 20 hours per week), you will follow online lectures, perform group assignments, and conduct individual exercises on the following subjects:

    1. General concepts of pharmacokinetics
    2. Pharmacokinetic analyses
    3. Interpretation of physiologically-based and population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modelling
    4. Bioanalysis

The course will end with an accompanying online exam.

    Online course

This is an online course, which means that unfortunately the social activities of the Radboud Summer School do not apply to this course. In addition, the program will also differ from the weekly schedule published on the website.

Two weeks before the course starts you will be added to our online learning environment Brightspace, where the new times will be communicated.
