Study Day for English teachers | Knowledge and skills within the new curriculum: language and cultural awareness

On Thursday, February 12, the English Language and Culture program, in collaboration with the Radboud Pre-University College of Society, is organizing a study day for secondary school English teachers. This day will focus on the new domains of language awareness and cultural awareness.

    General

    The MVT curriculum for secondary education is being revised. In addition to communication, two domains have been added to the draft exam programs that offer scope for new content: language awareness and cultural awareness. During this day, we will update you on these developments, and you will then delve into the subject matter and teaching methods during two rounds of workshops focusing on these new domains.

    The study day starts at 1:15 p.m. and ends around 4:30 p.m. The full program for the day can be found under ‘program’.

    Registration

    The study day will take place on the campus of Radboud University. You can pay the fee (€125) directly upon registration by credit card, Ideal, or PayPal. You will receive a confirmation for any reimbursement from your employer. Students can participate in this study day at a reduced rate (€25).

    The afternoon will be opened by Calijn de Jong, English methodology teacher and teacher trainer at the Radboud Teachers Academy, who will highlight the new developments from an overarching perspective. Together with Dr. Chris Cusack and Dr. Lindsay Janssen, experts in literature and culture at the BA English Language and Culture/ American Studies and the Educational Master's program, and Dr. Sanne van Vuuren, expert in linguistics and language acquisition at the BA English Language and Culture program, you will then explore what these changes mean for the various pillars of the school subject English and how they can be translated into your own teaching practice.
