Jippe Lasschuijt is a Master's student Biomedical sciences with a specialisation in Clinical Human Movement Sciences.
What do you like about the programme/specialisation and why?
Since I studied Physiotherapy before, Biomedical sciences, and in particular clinical human movements sciences, gave me the research skills which helped me with my clinical practice. I really like how experienced you get with conducting research, especially in the clinical setting.
What do you think about the atmosphere in class (for example the relationship between students and with the teachers/researchers)?
Due to all the different background in bachelor's, all students share their knowledge and use the skills they gained from this in group assignments. This makes working together educational since you learn so much from each other.
What do you find most challenging in your Master’s (specialisation)? Have you encountered any obstacles?
During the master’s programme, finding a balance between studying and private life requires good planning. In the first year of the master’s, I had to find the right balance for myself. After several conversations with the study advisor, this was sorted out. And when I applied it in the second year, it was much easier.
Are you currently doing an internship? Or what is your thesis about?
After finishing my previous internship at Stellenbosch University in South-Africa I decided to do my research internship at the Physiology department at the Radboudumc. Here I focus on the association between training intensity and coronary artery calcification in middle aged life long athletes.
Why do you think it is important that there are people with this degree?
I think it is important that people with this degree exist because we learn to combine a solid understanding of biological mechanisms with practical knowledge of human movement and rehabilitation. This allows us to translate scientific findings into effective, evidence-based treatment and prevention strategies, ultimately enhancing patients well-being.
