About our research
This Master’s specialisation is closely connected to the Institute for Management Research (IMR), the research institute of the Nijmegen School of Management. IMR conducts state-of-the-art research into complex governance and management issues, seeking not only to understand the underlying causes of these problems but also to develop innovative solutions.
Hot Spots
In this Master’s programme, you’ll collaborate with IMR’s “Hot Spots” — multidisciplinary research groups led by top scholars. Each Hot Spot tackles urgent governance and management challenges, blending scientific excellence with societal relevance, offering students a unique hands-on research experience.
The multidisciplinary research group EUROPAL focuses on EU politics, governance and law. It seeks to analyse, understand and explain processes of Europeanisation, EU decision making and policy implementation against the background of increased policy pressures and growing domestic politicisation. While doing so, it takes into account evolving inter-institutional relations and balances of power, both at the EU and domestic level, as well as the characteristics of the composite European Administrative Space. EUROPAL members approach the relevant topics mainly from the perspectives of political science, public administration and law.
In the current era of democratic erosion and rising authoritarianism, this Hot Spot positions itself as a bulwark of cutting-edge research on democracy. By fostering the dissemination of research findings and dialogue across disciplines, and by connecting citizens, policymakers and researchers, the Hot Spot contributes to democratic innovation and democratic resilience and helps to develop sustainable democratic practices and institutions.
