Investigate the effects of globalisation and migration processes on economies, societies and resources on different parts of the world. The main focus lies on the Global South and its interaction with the Global North.

- Our approach is highly multidisciplinary and relates to fields such as sociology, anthropology, international development studies and political science.
- While the main focus of this programme is on developments taking pace in the Global South, we do make connections to processes taking place in the Global North, especially if they are connected (e.g. migration, climate change, flows of goods)
- While we place emphasis on the role of globalization on urban societies/economies, we do also explore its role in rural contexts, and also highlights processes linking rural and urban domains

What will you learn
In the Master’s specialisation in Globalisation, Migration and Development you will study the various dimensions and aspects of globalisation and migration. The main aim is to gain a better understanding of the changing relationships of global and local societies through the rise of social and spatial inequalities. You will come to learn that these are brought about by global processes, migration and mobility and the emergence of transnational identities, which may contrast with local orientations that may be part of the same multicultural societies.

- Policy advisor on international cooperation and development issues
- Practitioner and programme developer for an NGO or IGO
- Field officer for NGOs, IGOs and governmental AGENCIES
- Policy development expert for Provincial Governments

- A secondary school lecturer - through the combination with the Geography educational programme (Dutch only)
