Why study International Economics & Development in Nijmegen?
Do you want to dive into the challenges to sustainable development worldwide? Do you want to understand why some poor countries do not catch up and others did? Or perhaps you are worried about your own future and how climate change, conflicts, international migration, may give rise to populist parties and and affect the economic wellbeing of your country. During this Master's specialisation you will gain the skills and academic knowledge required to become a professional in global sustainable economics and inclusive development.
Master's specialisation in International Economics and Development
- This specialisation provides students with the latest knowledge in the disciplines of international and development economics, applied micro-economics, survey methodology and impact evaluation.
- We emphasise the importance of sustainable and equitable economic growth that accounts for planetary health, intergenerational justice and inclusion. We teach our students a pluralistic view, showing how facts and figures are perceived by policymakers and thus demonstrating the power and responsibility that coincides for example with green deals, development aid cuts, and migration policy.
- The specialisation is unique for its multidisciplinarity, its critical view on economic development locally and globally, and its broad theoretical basis. We therefore start by teaching our students general economic theories that include not just the mainstream theories but also heterodox theories that give a different and well-rounded perspective on contemporary economics. The ‘standard’ economics package is further expanded
