(Preparatory) minor and pre-Master's
If you do not meet the admission requirements, there are various pathways to gain access to the Master's programme in Intersectional Gender Studies. The pathway depends on your educational background.
About this study curriculum
Are you currently a University of Applied Sciences (HBO) student? You can follow a preparatory minor (30 EC) to gain access to the Master's programme in Intersectional Gender Studies. The preparatory minor in Intersectional Gender Studies consist of a selection of content-based courses and courses focused on academic and research skills. The courses are taken alongside Bachelor's students from various disciplines. Upon completing the preparatory minor, you will receive a certificate (not a Bachelor's degree) that includes an overview of the completed courses. The preparatory minor starts 26 January 2026. Registration and enrollment for the preparatory minor as a hbo-student are handled through 'Kies op Maat'. The application deadline is December 1.
Are you currently a Research University (WO) student?
1. Are you a student in the field of Social Sciences, Humanities or Management Sciences? Have you not yet completed at least 20 ECs in critical courses such as Gender & Diversity Studies, Women's Studies, Sexuality Studies, Disability Studies, Migration Studies, Postcolonial Studies, or a similar critical curriculum? You can take a minor or elective courses that will, along with your Bachelor's degree, makes you eligible for the Master's programme. The minors you can follow are: Cultural Sexuality Studies; Diversity, Inclusion and Gender; Gender, Culture and Society, Variant 1; Gender, Culture and Society, Variant 2; Gender and Intersectionality. Are you a student in a discipline other than the Social Sciences, Humanities or Management Sciences and have you not yet completed at least 20 ECs in critical courses from the field of Gender & Diversity Studies, Sexuality Studies, Disability Studies, Postcolonial and Decolonial Studies, Migration Studies, or a similar critical curriculum? During your studies, you can take a preparatory minor (30 EC) that makes you eligible for the Master's programme. This minor starts 26 January 2026.
3. Are you a student in a discipline other than the Social Sciences, Humanities or Management Sciences and have you already earned at least 20 ECs in critical courses from the field of Gender & Diversity Studies, Sexuality Studies, Disability Studies, Postcolonial and Decolonial Studies, Migration Studies, or a similar critical curriculum? After completing a set of academic courses (7 EC), you are admissible to the Master's in Intersectional Gender Studies. These courses are followed from 26 January 2026.
Have you graduated from your studies (either HBO or WO) and are you currently not enrolled in higher education? In that case, you can apply for the pre-Master's in Intersectional Gender Studies. This programme starts September 1 2026.
Language requirements
A sufficient level of English proficiency is required for meeting the admission requirements for the preparatory minor (30 EC) . Based on your previous education, the admissions board decides whether or not you are required to take an English language test.

- IELTS Academic (note: not IELTS Online) with overall score ≥6.0 and all subscores ≥6.0
- TOEFL iBT (note: not Home Edition) with overall score ≥80 and all subscores ≥20
- Cambridge C1 Advanced with overall score ≥169 and all subscores ≥169
- Cambridge C2 Proficiency with overall score ≥180 and all subscores ≥169
- PTE Academic* (note: not PTE academic Online) with overall score of ≥ 61 and all subscores ≥ 56
- LanguageCert Academic* (note: not LanguageCert Academic Online) with overall score of ≥ 65 and subscores: listening ≥ 62; reading, writing ≥ 65; speaking ≥ 68

For the preparatory minor (30 EC), you will follow compulsory courses and choose from various other elective courses. This minor starts 26 January 2026.
