Anna Sivova is a Master's student Marketing.

What do you like about the programme/specialisation and why? How has the programme/specialisation challenged you (in relation to your previous education)?

I do enjoy the variety of courses. I think all different aspects of marketing are covered by them. Especially nice is that we have elective courses and we have an opportunity to take a course from a different programme. I definitely learned a lot about marketing and different research methods applied in marketing research, considering I did a Political Science Bachelor's before.

What do you think about the atmosphere in class (for example the relationship between students and with the teachers/researchers)?

The teachers are always open for a dialogue. The atmosphere in the class does feel quite informal, there is always room for discussion and expressing your opinion on the topic. Most of the time classes are very interactive, and that really helped me in understanding the topic and not losing interest in it during the class.

What do you find most challenging in your Master’s (specialisation)? Have you encountered any obstacles?

I think the amount of group work we have is the most challenging part of the Master's. There might be up to 6 people in the group, which makes it difficult to set up meetings and makes the communication not as flexible as in a smaller group. This in the end is reflected in the quality of our work, and just adds stress to your life.

Are you currently doing an internship? Or what is your thesis about?

I am doing my thesis on my own, not with a company. It is about ideation contests and company's co-creation with the customers.

Why do you think is it important that there are people out there with this degree? What are your plans once have received your Master's degree?

The Master's gives you a nice overview of the strategic marketing processes in a company. It doesn't teach you specific tools to use, but you definitely will be able to understand the big idea behind the specific actions you might need to perform as a junior employee. My own plans are to look for a job preferably in branding management (I think I was inspired by the International Brand Management course).
