Curriculum of Medical Data Science

Curriculum

  • Year 1

The two-year Master’s in Medical Data Science (120 ECTS) prepares you to become a professional who analyses complex biomedical data and develops solutions for healthcare practice. During the first year, you build a broad foundation in data science, deep learning, and biostatistics while learning key concepts from biomedical sciences, with opportunities to specialize in imaging, omics, or wearable technologies. In the second year, you further tailor your programme through elective courses and two flexible internships.

Throughout the programme, interdisciplinary collaboration, ethics, implementation, and engagement with healthcare professionals, researchers, and patients are central themes, ensuring that you develop the skills needed to apply data science effectively and responsibly in biomedical and clinical settings.

    Year 1 – Foundations & Specialization (60 ECTS)

During the first year, you follow parallel courses that integrate two complementary domains of knowledge:

    • Data Science & Methodology: biostatistics, data science, and deep learning.
    • Biomedical Context: molecular, cellular, anatomical, physiological, and epidemiological perspectives.

In addition, you work with the three major sources of biomedical data: medical imaging, omics, and medical interventions. After completing these core courses, you choose one of these domains as your area of specialization for further in-depth study.
