The Biomedical Sciences (BMS) programme provides the broad academic foundation from which students can further specialise in a range of disciplines. From this overarching master’s degree, you will choose a specialisation that aligns with your interests and future ambitions.
The specialisation of Medical Neuroscience in Nijmegen will bring you an integrated understanding of the latest research into brain disorders and the ability to bridge disciplines in neuroscience, from molecular neurobiology to cognitive neuroscience.
The two-year programme Biomedical Sciences provides students with a solid base in research methodology, practical and communication skills. Leading scientists from a wide range of Biomedical research domains are involved in the teaching programme.
In addition to choosing one of the specialisations, students opt for one of the career profiles: Research, Consultancy, Science Communication, or Entrepreneurship.

Research base with other career options
This master’s programme has a strong link with research departments connected to the Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen. Depending on your specialisation and other choices in your master’s you can focus on research at a molecular/cellular, human (clinical practice and patient care) or population and society level. However, there are also career options other than scientific research. Therefore, we offer you four career profiles: Research, Consultancy, Science Communication, and Entrepreneurship.
Electives
The BMS Master’s programme includes 11–23 EC of elective space (remaining elective EC depend on the duration of your internship). This allows you to tailor your programme to your personal interests and ambitions. The BMS programme offers a broad range of elective courses. Students can also choose to take courses at another faculty or university to fill their elective space.
Personal and Professional Development (PPD)
The PPD line spans the full two years of the programme and runs alongside courses and internships. Each student will be assigned to a specialisation coordinator (an experienced researcher/teacher ) who coaches the student in formulating and achieving personal and professional development goals, and supports the student in constructing their programme (courses and internships) and reflecting on career aspirations.
