Why study Particle and Astrophysics in Nijmegen?
The two-year Master’s specialisation Particle and Astrophysics provides you with a thorough background in High Energy Physics, Astrophysics, and Mathematical Physics and the interface between them. If you are fascinated by the extreme densities, gravities, and magnetic fields that can be found only in space, or by the formation, evolution, and composition of astrophysical objects, you can focus on the Astrophysics branch within this specialisation. If you would rather study particle interactions and participate in the search for new particles, such as during an internship at CERN, then you can choose a programme focused on High Energy Physics. And for students with a major interest in the theories and predictions underlying all experimental work, we offer an extensive programme in mathematical or theoretical physics.
Why study Particle and Astrophysics?
- This Master’s specialisation provides you with a thorough background in High Energy Physics, Astrophysics, and Theoretical Physics and the interface between them.
- You’ll get the opportunity to perform theoretical, experimental or observational research at the Institute for Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics (IMAPP).
- We offer a synergy track Computational and Data Science where you dive into the synergy of different disciplines in the science faculty that are engaged in computational modelling and data science.
- We also offer a Gravity+ synergy track that reflects the unique Radboud expertise on the role of gravity in the universe, from the smallest to the largest length scales.
- Apart from the mandatory programme, there’s plenty of room to adapt the programme to your specific interests.
- It's possible to participate in large-scale research projects, such as the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the Event Horizon Telescope or gravitational wave detectors like LIGO.
- You can contribute to forefront research by developing theoretical foundations for gravity and particle physics.
