What will you learn

The study programme focusses on both theory and practice and will train you to become a practice-based researcher. You study scientific theory to become a behavioural expert and learn how to implement your knowledge by developing and testing behaviour change interventions in practice. Your graduation assignment is a research project, consisting of an internship and thesis in a domain of your choice. The programme has a clear and singular goal: for you to become a scientific expert of behaviour change in all its forms.

Behaviour is being increasingly examined in different areas within various organisations and companies. These are developments that bode well for your future professional prospects. Furthermore, successful completion of this programme will provide you with the opportunity to work in a wide range of areas and professions.

Graduates have found work in many different professions, e.g. as advertising or marketing expert (both online and offline), information officer, communication consultant, project manager, researcher, prevention expert, health promoter or policy officer in local, provincial or national government. You could also consider doing a government or corporate traineeship.

Since human behaviour plays a role in so many domains, the research topics you can work on in Behaviour Change are very diverse. To give you some inspiration, here are some of the projects and interventions our students have been working on:

  • Increasing the turnout rate among blood donors
  • Reducing smartphone use amongst students to increase well-being
  • Increasing the use of car-sharing services in The Hague
  • Motivating beach visitors to not leave any trash 
  • Increasing diversity acceptance at a military base
