Career prospects
After your studies
Science in Society prepares you for a dynamic career as an analytical and communicative bridge-builder between science and society. You will be trained as an interdisciplinary scientist who understands and effectively connects the scientific, political and social domains. Such intermediaries are indispensable, especially in places where scientists are in direct contact with citizens, politicians, or entrepreneurs.
Possible occupations
- Policy advisor at governments, interest groups or advisory bodies
- Researcher that connects science and society
- Journalist
- Communications advisor
- Information officer
Our alumni work in policy institutions, advisory bodies, NGOs and governments. In addition, the specialisation offers a solid basis for a career as a researcher in interdisciplinary research projects at universities and other knowledge institutions such as the Rathenau Institute. Many continue to do a PhD in the natural sciences, the social sciences, or at the intersection between science and society. We support your career orientation through close supervision and through networking events. In your graduation projects you can choose to collaborate with our external partners in business and policy making.

Why stop learning after graduation?
In order to keep pace with the rapid progress in our current society, you must continue to work on your development even after getting a degree. This allows you to keep up with societal change and make a worthwhile contribution to both your personal development and to wider society. For any questions regarding this lifelong development, Radboud Academy is pleased to help you. So, are you looking to deepen your knowledge after obtaining a Master’s degree? Then a post-Master's might be something for you. Or do you want to learn to translate your academic skills into an actual job? Then you can participate in our Young Professional Programme after your Master's (in Dutch).
