Admission and application
I realised that to fully address the major issues facing society today, one must understand the social dynamics involved in defining, creating, and solving these challenges.

What will you learn

In this specialisation, you broaden your perspective on your own scientific discipline with a social science approach, with philosophical reflection, and with interdisciplinary applications. You study the relevance of science in society using theoretical principles and practical examples.

Leading questions are: What is better science? What is a better world? How can and should we understand the roles and responsibilities of science in society? How do interactions between scientists and societal stakeholders shape developments and outcomes? These questions form the starting point of SiS courses on science-policy interaction, science communication and dialogue, citizen participation in science and policy, and on philosophy and ethics of science and technology.

Future career opportunities

Science in Society prepares you for a dynamic career as an analytical and communicative bridge-builder between science and society. You will be trained as an interdisciplinary scientist who understands and effectively connects the scientific, political and social domains. Such intermediaries are indispensable, especially in places where scientists are in direct contact with citizens, politicians, or entrepreneurs.

Career prospects
