What is a pre-Master’s programme and why should I follow a pre-Master's?

Once you have completed a Higher Professional Bachelor’s degree, you will not be able to start a university Master’s programme straight away. This is also the case if you have completed a university Bachelor’s degree and you wish to follow a Master’s programme that is not directly related to your Bachelor’s degree. In such a case, you can usually do a pre-Master’s.

A pre-Master's is a transitional year that is tailored to the Master’s programme that you wish to do. A completed pre-Master’s will grant you admission to the Master’s programme.

Pre-Master’s programme structure

A pre-Master’s programme usually takes one academic year to complete. By following a specially compiled set of courses, you will acquire enough theoretical knowledge and academic skills to be able to proceed to the desired Master’s programme. The chosen set of courses will be compiled on the basis of your previous education.

Admission to a pre-Master’s programme

Your previous education will determine your eligibility for the pre-Master’s programme. The specific admission requirements for each pre-Master’s programme can be found on the page for the programme in question. Once you have successfully completed the pre-Master’s programme, you will receive a pre-Master’s certificate that will serve as proof of admission for the Master’s programme.
