Why study Pre-Master's Orthodox Christianity in Nijmegen?

The pre-master in Orthodox Christianity provides students with an introduction to Orthodox Christianity as it is lived in its rich diversity.

The programme focuses on what is shared by the Orthodox of both families: the ‘Eastern Orthodox’ (Greek, Slavic, Arabic, Romanian etc. traditions) and the ‘Oriental Orthodox’ (Armenian, Coptic, Syriac, Ethiopic and Eritrean traditions).
Students will gain basic knowledge about how one of three main forms of Christianity understands its faith and practices.

The pre-master gives access to two masters taught in Dutch: Geestelijke Verzorging and the Tweejarige Educatieve Master Godsdienst en Levensbeschouwing. There are many opportunities to work as an Orthodox spiritual caregiver or teacher in The Netherlands. Some students prefer not to continue with a master and treat the pre-master as a ‘mini-bachelor’ in Orthodox Christianity. The pre-master can largely be followed on-line; the masters are mainly taught on campus and have internships as part of their programmes

The students will study Orthodoxy in its own right, instead of highlighting the differences with the other two forms of Christianity (Roman Catholicism and Protestantism).
