Preparatory minor for HBO students
It is not possible for HBO students to be admitted directly to a Master’s programme. First, they must participate in a pre-Master’s programme that will provide them with the basic scientific knowledge and academic skills at the level of a university Bachelor’s programme. Successful, motivated HBO students can take a maximum of five courses in advance from the pre-Master's programme. This will reduce the costs of the pre-Master’s programme to be taken later.
About this study curriculum
Students can take up to 30 ECTS of courses from the pre-Master’s programme. This amounts to 5 courses. A pre-Master’s programme is available for each corresponding Master’s programme. For more information on the programme, click on one of the Master’s specialisations listed below.
Admission requirements
With a Political Science-related, HBO-programme, you are eligible for admission to the preparatory minor. The following HBO-programmes are eligible for the preparatory minor:
- Bestuurskunde/Overheidsmanagement
- Journalistiek
- Lerarenopleiding Maatschappijleer/Geschiedenis
- Recht
- European Studies
The above overview is not exhaustive. If your programme is not listed and is related to Political Science, please contact the study advisor.
For all candidates, they need a declaration of consent from their HBO-programme (from the institute's management and examination board) and a declaration of consent from the Radboud University's Political Science Examination Board.
- Admitted HBO-students are enrolled at the Radboud University as contract students. HBO-students who have already obtained at least 150 EC with at least 7.5 average (unweighted) over all grades obtained so far are directly admissible.
- HBO-students with at least 150 EC obtained and 7.0-7.5 average (unweighted) on all grades obtained until then must also submit a motivation letter; the Political Science Examination Board of the Radboud University decides whether the student can be admitted.
Admission to the preparatory minor means that the student is directly admissible to the pre-Master's degree after obtaining the HBO-diploma.
Application
To participate in a preparatory minor, you must register as a student at Radboud University using the following form.
Registration after completing the preparatory minor
Admission to the preparatory minor means that the student is immediately admissible to the pre-Master’s programme upon completion of the HBO degree programme. As soon as you have completed your HBO Bachelor’s programme and successfully completed the courses in the preparatory minor, you can register for the ‘regular’ pre-Master’s programme via Studielink.
In order to definitively complete your enrolment in Studielink, you must request an admission statement from the Examination Board. This is also done by writing a letter which must include the following:
- The original, certified copy of your diploma or
- The “bewijs behaald diploma (proof of obtained diploma)”, to be prepared by your HBO institution.
The Examination Board will then ensure that your admission statement is forwarded internally, which will activate the Studielink enrolment.
Fees
You do not pay any fees for the preparatory minor. This is because you will be enrolled at your own institution for the duration of the preparatory minor. For the remaining portion of the pre-Master’s programme, you will be charged a fee. The fee is determined according to the number of EC. You can calculate your fee amount here (in Dutch).
Your institution must pay a fee of 75 euros per completed EC to the Nijmegen School of Management (Kies op Maat rate). Download the contract and have it completed and signed by your programme’s finance officer.
