Radboud University believes it is important that an international exchange is accessible to every student. This is why we offer the Erasmus+ Inclusion top-up. This is a financial support for students who need it for their study or internship exchange due to special circumstances. There is also the Erasmus+ Green Travel top-up.

Erasmus+ Inclusion top-up
- students with a physical or mental disability that hinders your study or international mobility. This should be proved with a doctor's certificate or this should be verifiable with your student dean;
- students who receive a supplementary grant from DUO (or equivalent from another country) or have received one in recent years, because they come from a family with a lower income.
Once you apply for the top-up, you must declare that you meet the requirements to top-up. The assessment process that follows takes place in a careful and confidential manner.
Erasmus+ Green Travel top-up
We would like to reward students who travel to their destination using a sustainable form of transport (with low CO2 emissions). The travel allowance you receive if you travel in a sustainable manner is higher than the standard travel allowance. Examples of sustainable forms of transport are: bicycle, bus or train. To be eligible for the top-up, you must have travelled most of both the outward and return journey to and from the destination country in a sustainable manner.
To receive this top-up, you need to take the following steps:
- Save (if applicable) all tickets of your transport and submit them (digitally) to us;
- Complete and sign the Declaration Green Travel top-up form. On the form, describe how and when you travelled. You will receive this form from us via e-mail.
The Erasmus+ top-ups are additional scholarships on top of the normal Erasmus+ scholarship. The Inclusion top-up is €250 per month, or €8.33 per day. The exact Green Travel top-up amount depends on the distance to your destination. For the detailed amounts of the grants please check the document at the bottom of this page.
How to apply
General application procedure
Apply to the International Office of your faculty.
Do you meet the set conditions and would you like to be considered for one of the top-ups? Then you can indicate this on the scholarship application form. This form will be sent to you after you have been selected and nominated by your host university for a study exchange. Students who will do an internship abroad can apply throughout the year and indicate this on the application form at that time.
We then do a brief check to see if you do indeed qualify for the top-up. This is done carefully and confidentially, taking into account your privacy.
Application procedure Erasmus+ Inclusion top-up
- If you wish to go abroad with an Erasmus+ scholarship for studies or for an internship, you should first register at the International Office of your faculty.
- Shortly after you have been selected for the scholarship by your faculty, you will automatically receive an email requesting you to start your Erasmus+ scholarship application. You will receive this email between mid-May and mid-June.
- When starting your Erasmus+ scholarship application, you can indicate whether you want to be considered for the Inclusion top-up.
- After you have completed the required data online and have sent it to us, you will receive a confirmation of your pre-application together with the application form for the Inclusion top-up.
- If you are applying for the top-up due to financial reasons, please send the completed application form, including the DUO supplementary grant declaration, to erasmus [at] ru.nl (erasmus[at]ru[dot]nl). You will then be notified whether your application for the top-up has been approved or not.
If you are applying for the top-up due to a physical or mental disability, please send the completed application form, including a doctor's statement and a personal explanatory note on the disability, to studentendecanen [at] ru.nl (studentendecanen[at]ru[dot]nl) for approval. In some cases, a doctor's statement is not available and a personal explanation of the disability is sufficient.
