Solar Cell Research Facility

The lab facilities of the Applied Materials Science (AMS) department include facilities for solar energy analysis and outdoor calibration, as well as the Thin Film Growth Laboratory, which is especially interesting for companies and academics concerned with innovations in the field of solar cells.

Facilities

AMS has calibration facilities for dedicated device tests (e.g. I-V, QE, LBIC) under regular and concentrated illumination levels (up to 2000 times).

In the Thin Film Growth Laboratory, materials and thin films can be grown with atomic precision.

Solar cell proof of concept line

We are working with several partners for the usage of high-return solar cells in space travel and high-end consumer products. In collaboration with the spin-off company Rera Solutions, we developed light irradiation indicators for the control and output optimization of PV installations and the solar radar as input for smart-grid developments.

The solar cell proof of concept line is especially interesting for companies concerned with innovations in the field of solar cells since we can develop an anti-reflection coating with this facility for a higher return.
