About IMAPP
The research Institute for Mathematics, Astrophysics and Particle Physics (IMAPP) is part of the Faculty of Science. At IMAPP, we engage in essential studies that explore the fundamentals of mathematics, astrophysics, and high energy physics, with a particular emphasis on interdisciplinary areas of research.
Mission
- Conduct world-class research within the disciplines of Mathematics, Astrophysics, and High Energy Physics and by exploiting the synergy on the interfaces of those three disciplines.
- Provide excellent education, which is coupled to research conducted at IMAPP, and thereby deliver the next generation of scientists who are highly skilled and well-prepared for careers in- and outside academia.
- Create positive societal impact, fostering national and international collaborations in- and outside academia.
Board
- Eric Cator (Director)
- Francisca Maalcke (Managing director)
- Jörg Hörandel (Head of Astrophysics)
- Badri Krishnan (Head of High Energy Physics)
- Gabriel Lord (Head of Mathematics)
The board of IMAPP is supported by management assistant Gertie Verberk-van Haren.
Confidential contact persons
Next to the university's confidential advisors, IMAPP has its own confidential contact persons available for all PhD candidates, postdocs, and staff. If you would like their support, do not hesitate to contact them.
Grant support
Grant writing is a recurring challenge for many of us. We often face similar obstacles and can benefit greatly from learning from one another. Discussing proposal ideas and receiving feedback on drafts can significantly increase the chances of success.
To formalise this kind of support, the IMAPP Board has established a Grant Support Team, consisting of Marijke Haverkorn (Astrophysics), Mengqing Wu (HEP), and Klaas Landsman (Mathematics).
The team aims to provide assistance with grant proposals by coordinating feedback from colleagues on drafts and/or facilitating brainstorming sessions, particularly in the early stages of proposal development. For now, they are available to support all substantial proposals, ranging from single-hire grants to large collaborative projects.
If you are considering writing a grant proposal, you are warmly invited to contact Marijke, Mengqing, and Klaas at imappgrantsupport [at] science.ru.nl (imappgrantsupport[at]science[dot]ru[dot]nl). They will arrange a meeting to discuss your needs and the support they can provide.
