Polling opinions with Mentimeter

Mentimeter is an online polling and presentation tool with which you can measure students’ reactions. You can present students with questions and statements, on which they can react anonymously with their smartphone or laptop. The results are directly visible, so you can immediately incorporate these into your lecture.

Mentimeter helps to:

  • Gathering students’ opinions and questions in- and outside of lectures.
  • Actively involve students and to re-stimulate their interest: Mentimeter provides variety in a lecture.
  • Test how much knowledge students already possess on a certain topic and check whether they are still up to speed with the course material.
  • Help students better prepare for a lecture by having them fill in a poll before the lecture starts.
  • Promote group discussions: polling results are directly visible, so you can use these to start a discussion.
  • Letting students answer anonymously. This gives the quieter students a voice as well.

Good to know:

  • Mentimeter is webbased. That means you can use this tool anywhere and anytime, so long as you have an internet connection.
  • Mentimeter has a filter for all answers, which means inappropriate answers are automatically filtered out.
  • The results of a poll are downloadable, so you can view these again at a later time.
  • Take note: the code to take part in a presentation is valid for 4 hours.
