Synchronising SURFdrive with files on your device

SURFdrive lets you synchronise files stored in the cloud with a folder on your device. First, install the SURFdrive sync client.

When you leave Radboud University, the SURFdrive account is cancelled after six months. After that period, access to the files is no longer possible.

Steps

Installing SURFdrive-sync client on a Radboud-managed workstation

  • On a Radboud-managed workstation, you can install the SURFdrive-sync client from the Software Center.
  • Click the start button (with Windows icon) and click 'Software Center'.
  • Select 'SURFdrive ' and click 'Install'.

Installing SURFdrive-sync client on another device

If you do not work on a Radboud-managed workstation, you can download and install the software.

Note: when configuring, choose a folder other than the default one (see 'After installation'). Software is available for Windows, iOs, Android, Linux via this page.

After installation

By default, files from the cloud (SURFdrive) are synchronised with a folder created for this purpose on the C drive (the hard disk) during configuration. If you want to use a different place/folder, you can specify this during configuration or at a later time.

Caution:

  • Do not use the D drive to synchronise files stored there with files from the SURFcloud. The D drive is also accessible to others logging in to your PC, even if they do so with their own u-number and Radboud password.
  • If you decide to synchronise files in the cloud with files in the personal folder: there is a cost for storing files in the personal folder.
  • Files that others share with you will appear in the 'Shared' folder.

Not synchronising all folders

If you want to exclude folders from synchronisation. Follow these steps

  1. Open the SURFdrive application via the start menu (with Windows icon),
  2. Click on 'All programmes' and then successively on General, Edit, Ignored files and Add
  3. Type in the name of the folder you don't want synchronised and put a tick in front of it. It is recommended to do this at least for the Shared folder (files that others share with you).

On the SURFdrive website you will find a list of frequently asked questions, tutorials and a 'quick start' guide. No support is provided on the use of SURFdrive.
