Dr. Abduhalim Albakkor is a postdoctoral researcher at Radboud University, Faculty of Law, in the Sociology of Law and Migration Law division. His research focuses on migration, diasporic communities, and the social and emotional dimensions of refugee experiences, with particular attention to how social class, gender, age, and migration policies shape identity formation, belonging, and life trajectories. He is currently part of the NWO-funded Migration-Class Nexus Project, which investigates how social class and migration histories intersect to shape migrants’ opportunities and constraints before and after migration. His research within the project examines how class-based resources, legal status, and social networks influence settlement processes, labor market trajectories, intergenerational dynamics, and patterns of social mobility within the Syrian community in the Netherlands. Dr. Albakkor completed his PhD at the University of Groningen – Campus Fryslân with the dissertation Between Belonging and Longing to Belong: The Gendered and Intergenerational Lived Experiences of Syrian Refugees in Migration and Integration into Dutch Society. His doctoral research examined how Syrian refugees experience migration and integration across generations and gendered social positions, with particular attention to identity formation and well-being. His work employs qualitative and ethnographic research methods, including in-depth interviews, timeline approaches, and autoethnographic reflections, drawing on research conducted among Syrian diaspora communities across Europe. Dr. Albakkor holds an MSc in Public Policy and Human Development from Maastricht University and the United Nations University (UNU-MERIT), where his research examined homemaking practices among Syrian refugees in the Netherlands. He also holds an MA in Critical Gender Studies from Central European University.
