Dr. Najib Amin is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Centre for International Conflict Analysis and Management (CICAM). His research focuses on rebel-to-state transitions and post-2021 military and political developments in Afghanistan, with particular attention to the Taliban administration.
Najib holds a PhD from Leiden University’s Law School and taught a course on Law, Governance, and Development at Leiden University College in 2023. Prior to his PhD, he built an academic career in Afghanistan, studying Law and Political Science at Kabul University. In 2002, he joined Kabul University’s Law School as a senior researcher and later advanced to Assistant Professor of Law, teaching there for nearly two decades.
Besides his academic career, Najib made significant contributions to the Afghan public administration. His key engagements between 2002 - 2021 include: Afghanistan’s focal point to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Director General of the Civil Service Appointments Board, Commissioner for the Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission, Deputy Director General at the Office of Administrative Affairs, Undersecretary for the Cabinet, Chief Rapporteur and Academic Coordinator for the Constitutional Loya Jirga, and Head of Research and Analysis for the Constitutional Drafting and Review Commissions. Dr. Najib also served as the lead policy and content manager for nearly all Loya Jirgas held between 2004 and 2019.
