Prof. Jo Berden is an internist/nephrologist and head of the nephrology department. He conducts research on SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), an autoimmune disease that predominantly occurs in young females, often in conjunction with inflammation of the kidneys' filtering units. Prof. Berden is chairman of the Dutch SLE Task Force, and co-ordinator of a number of national studies on the treatment of SLE.
