Joost Beuving (PhD, MSc) is trained as a social anthropologist and he focuses mainly on the anthropology of economic life, especially in entrepreneurship, problematic debt and voluntary work. In 2023 he published the monograph 'Theorizing Entrepreneurship for the Future' (Berghahn, New York). His broader interest is methodological; with Geert de Vries he published the academic textbook 'The Craft of Naturalistic Inquiry" (Amsterdam University Press, 2015).

He carries out anthropological field research in several parts of Africa and Europe, and publishes in leading academic journals and book series. He is also a journal editor and manuscript reviewer for several journals, he publishes book reviews on a variety of topics, and he is on the editorial advisory board of Africa and Kwalon.
