Rian Bobbink conducts comparative and legal historical research in the field of private law. His main fields of interest are secured transactions and insolvency. He teaches Roman private law. In 2018 he was a visiting academic at the Commercial Law Department of University of Cape Town. In 2019 he completed the Grotius postgraduate specialist course on secured transactions (Grotius Specialisatieopleiding Financiering & Zekerheden).
In 2019, he was also a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institut für Ausländisches Recht und Rechtsvergleichung in Hamburg.
In 2021, Bobbink defended his PhD thesis about antichresis. Since then, he has been an Assistant Professor at the Business & Law Research Centre.
From May 2021 to January 2024, Bobbink worked one day a week as an academic adviser at a bank. In 2023, Bobbink was a visiting researcher at the law school of Western University of Ontario.
