Corentin will investigate Wolof, an African language (Niger-Congo, Atlantic) spoken in Senegal, the Gambia and Mauritania. In this language, information structure is expressed morphosyntactically by means of specific constructions encoding topic-focus structures. His PhD project aims to shed light on the grammatical structure as well as the semantics of these constructions. For this purpose, he mainly relies on linguistic data taken from Senegalese TV series.
