S. Camellia (Suborna)

Suborna Camellia is a doctoral candidate in Gender and Diversity at the Faculty of Social Sciences. She has a BA and MA in cultural anthropology. Before beginning her doctoral journey Suborna worked as an anthropologist at the James P Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University, and a few other research organisations in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her work involved studying marginalised communities in Bangladesh that included slum residents, people with disability, survivors of violence, sex workers, sexual minority people and children affected by HIV/AIDS.

Since relocating to Australia in 2018, Suborna has continued her research journey, actively engaging with marginalised communities in Australia, such as migrant and refugee populations, Indigenous people, mental health patients, and victims of disasters and climate change. She has worked with government public health institutions like the South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network, as well as not-for-profit organizations like Red Cross Australia and The Water Well Project.
