I have a PhD in geography and urban studies from the University of Amsterdam. My research revolves around security, conflict and environmental transitions. My work exposes and analyzes the political consequences of the socio-technical and material aspects of security practices and policing (from barbed wire to urban spaces, from guns to cars, from home alarms to digital technologies). I explore how such security practices unfold in urban spaces and as part of environmental protection and conservation activities. Working at the intersection of human geography, political anthropology and science and technologies studies, I unpack how these practices reproduce structural inequalities and different notions of (non-)belonging.
