Heleen de Coninck is a professor in system transitions and climate change and at the Department of Environmental Science in the Radboud Institute for Biological and Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Science. She is also professor in socio-technical innovation and climate change at Eindhoven University of Technology. Before joining the university, she worked for over 10 years on international energy and climate policy at the Energy research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), the largest energy research institute in the country. Her main research interest are in international climate policy, energy technology and innovation, with in the Netherlands a focus on industrial climate policy. She was one of the Coordinating Lead Authors of the IPCC Special Report on limiting warming to 1.5C (2018) and of the mitigation part of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (2022).

2020 - 2024 Funded by the European Union H2020 programme, C4U is a holistic interdisciplinary project addressing all the essential elements required for the optimal integration of CO2 capture in the iron and steel industry as part of the CCUS chain. This spans demonstration of two highly efficient solid based CO2 capture technologies for optimal integration into an iron and steel plant and detailed consideration of the safety, environmental, societal, policy and business aspects for successful incorporation into the North Sea Port CCUS industrial cluster in Belgium and the Netherlands. 2018 - 2018 Summary for Urban Policy-Makers of the IPCC Special Report on limiting warming to 1.5C. What do the conclusions of the SR1.5 mean for urban areas? What does the scientific literature tell us about what cities can do to adapt to warming of 1.5C, and to reduce emissions consistent with 1.5C? In collaboration with city policymakers, authors of the IPCC report on 1.5C wrote a summary for urban policymakers, presented at COP24 in Katowice in December 2018. More information

Heleen de Coninck researches international climate policy, deep emission reductions in energy-intensive industry and international technology cooperation, especially with developing countries. She was a coordinating lead author of the 2018 IPCC report on limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees C.
