Dr M.L. Cordas Alves (Mara)

I have a broad background from Experimental Psychology to Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience. My research focuses on the neurocognitive underpinnings of semantic cognition, particularly in those supporting semantic representation and control mechanisms to produce pivotal language-based operations, such as categorization and naming. I am also interested in the interplay between semantic and episodic memory systems, specifically on how different tasks and contexts impact episodic retrieval. My research is built upon theoretical accounts of healthy and pathological cognition to look at healthy ageing (from young to later adulthood) by combining cognitive and neuropsychological measures, with high-spatial resolution techniques, such as functional and structural MRI.
