Ilja Croijmans is Assistant Professor in language and communication and specializes in descriptions for taste and smell, expertise and experience, persuasive communication, consumer behavior and the applied role of AI in our society. His research focuses on how we can use expert language to persuade people to make more sustainable and healthy choices. He combines research in these topics with teaching in business communication, research methodology and the role of descriptions in consumer behavior. In 2018 he defended his dissertation entitled 'Flavor expertise shapes olfactory language and cognition' at Radboud University, supervised by Asifa Majid, and was awarded a PhD in linguistics. Between 2018 and 2022 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher investigating the role of scent in interpersonal communication as a member of Monique Smeets' Smell Lab at Utrecht University. Croijmans is part of the Netherlands Olfactory Science Exchange (NOSE) steering committee, a member of the European Chemoreception Research Organisation (ECRO) and the Global Consortium for Chemosensory Research (GCCR).
