Frederik Van Dam teaches courses on modern European literature and cultural theory in different programs at the Faculty of Arts.
His research revolves around the function of literature in public debates, and on the use of literature in diplomatic contexts in particular. He has a background in English studies, with a focus on the Victorian novel. In his most recent research, he is working on two projects, one dealing with British poetry and international cooperation, the other focusing on Central-European 'minor' modernism and infrastructure.
As a part of his outreach activities, he has been involved in various creative collaborations, including a graphic novel adaptation of a Victorian novel, a documentary featuring an eminent literary critic, a board game that simulates research, and interviews with contemporary writers.
He is the chair of European Consortium for Humanities Institutes and Centres, the co-chair of the Radboud Young Academy, an editor of the European Journal of English Studies, and leader of research group SCARAB.
