Roy is interested in the intersection of philosophy, psychiatry and psychology. His research focuses on two key questions: (1) how does mental illness affect 'who I am', and (2) how does mental illness affect 'what I know'? Regarding the first question, Roy investigates so-called 'self-illness ambiguity', i.e. the conceptualisation or experience of the (often ambiguous) relation between a person and their disorder. Regarding the second question, Roy investigates the conceptual and epistemological basis of experiential knowledge and expertise.
