Christian Doeller is a Principal Investigator at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour at Radboud University Nijmegen. His research group ‘Memory and Space’, based at the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging, investigates brain systems which support the transformation of experience into enduring episodic memories and how these networks help us to map and navigate our environment. Doeller’s group uses fMRI and MEG in combination with virtual reality, psychophysics, multivariate analysis techniques and proxy measures of cellular activity. He was awarded the prestigious ERC Starting Grant in 2010 and has published in leading journals, including Nature, PNAS, PLoS Biology, Current Biology, and The Journal of Neuroscience. Seminal contributions include the discovery of grid cell-like neural representations of space in the human network for episodic memory. Doeller’s research also provides the first clear identification of the nature of the learning mechanism used by the hippocampus when we encode new information. Doeller is Speaker of the Donders Graduate School for Cognitive Neuroscience. Doeller is internationally well connected through collaborative links with scientists in the US (National Institute of Health), the UK (University College London) and Germany (Max Planck Society). Since 2011, he is founding Board member of the Young Academy of Europe.
